This policy explains what happens to your information when you visit bftdfilms.com. It is written to describe what this website actually does, rather than to cover every practice a website might have.
Who we are
This website is operated by BFTD Productions Limited, trading as Back From The Dead Productions, a film and documentary production company working between Los Angeles and Dublin.

For the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation, we are the data controller for the information described below.
The short version
We do not set cookies. We do not run advertising or tracking pixels. We do not sell or share your information. There are no accounts to create and nothing to log in to. The only information you give us directly is what you type into the contact form, and we only use it to reply to you.
What we collect
When you send us a message
Our contact form asks for your name, your email address, and your message. You choose what to put in it. We use this only to read and reply to your enquiry.
The form is handled by Formspree, a form-processing service based in the United States, which passes the message on to us by email. Your message is held by Formspree and in our email system.
When you simply read the site
We use GoatCounter to understand roughly how many people visit and which pages they read. It is a deliberately minimal analytics tool. It:
- sets no cookies;
- does not store your IP address, your full browser user-agent string, or any persistent identifier for you;
- records only aggregate figures, being your browser, operating system, country derived from your IP address, language, screen width, which pages were viewed, and the site you arrived from.
To recognise a returning visitor within a session it briefly holds a scrambled combination of the site name, your IP address and your browser type in memory for up to eight hours. This is never written to its records.
Our website is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub receives and logs standard technical request information, including your IP address, in order to deliver the page to you. We have no access to those logs.
When you play a video
Our showreel section embeds players from YouTube and Vimeo. Nothing is requested from either platform until you actively click to play a video. If you read the page without playing anything, your browser never contacts them and they cannot set anything on your device.
Once you do click play, that platform is providing the video and its own privacy policy and cookies apply. We have no control over, and no visibility of, what they collect.
Cookies
This website sets no cookies. We use no advertising, remarketing, analytics or preference cookies of our own, and no browser storage for tracking.
If you choose to play an embedded video, YouTube or Vimeo may set cookies at that point. That is the only circumstance in which a cookie can be set through this site, and it only happens if you ask for it.
Fonts and other resources
The typefaces on this site are served from our own domain. We do not load fonts, scripts or images from third-party content delivery networks, so simply opening a page does not reveal your IP address to any company other than our host and our analytics provider.
Why we are allowed to use your information
Under the GDPR we rely on the following:
- To reply to your enquiry — our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us, and taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.
- To understand how the site is used — our legitimate interest in knowing which of our work people are interested in, using analytics that do not identify anyone.
- To meet legal obligations — where we are required to retain or disclose information by law.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your information and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing.
We use the following service providers, who process information on our behalf:

We may also disclose information where we are required to do so by law, or where it is necessary to establish or defend legal claims.
Our analytics provider is established in Ireland and stores its data on servers in Finland and Germany, so analytics information does not leave the European Economic Area.
Our host, our form processor and our email provider are established in the United States, so information handled by them — which for the contact form means your name, email address and message — may be transferred there. Those transfers rely on the safeguards each provider has in place, including standard contractual clauses where applicable.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiry correspondence for as long as needed to deal with it, and for up to two years from our last exchange with you in case you get back in touch about the same matter. After that it is deleted.
If your enquiry leads to us working together, correspondence relating to that work is kept for as long as the relationship lasts and for six years afterwards, which is the period we may need it for tax and legal purposes.
Analytics figures are aggregate and contain nothing that identifies you, so they are kept indefinitely.
Your rights
If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area you have the right to ask us to give you a copy of the information we hold about you, to correct it if it is wrong, to delete it, to restrict how we use it, to object to our using it, and to receive it in a portable format. You can exercise any of these by emailing contact@bftdfilms.com.
We will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie, or to the supervisory authority in your own country.
Children
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Changes
We will update this page if our practices change, and we will change the date at the top. Material changes will be noted here.
